Our History
Formed by Caroline Hallam in October 2019, Sonority is an a vocal group set up to explore the wealth of music written specifically for female voices. No props, microphones or gimmicks, the group brings together passionate singers to create innovative, unforgettable and moving live performances.
The group’s programming defies pigeonholing; Sonority embraces a range of genres to create programmes that can span nine centuries and will excite audiences and reflect the passions of the singers. We aim to give upper voice music, female composers and female conductors a platform. We encourage and nurture emerging conductors and singing leaders to expand their skills, confidence and experience in a safe and supportive way.
The groups looks to perform its music in a range of unusual and exciting venues. We believe that sounds and space are interlinked and they intrinsically effect each other. Music can transform a space so that the audience experiences the music in a new way and at the same time sees the surroundings in a new light. We hope to create enchanting, heartfelt, immersive experiences for our audiences. They are surrounded by lush harmonies and soaring descants. Concerts will always be moving, uplifting and a thoroughly captivating experience.

The performance by Sonority was beyond my expectations. They were stunning. They performed a wide ranging programme of challenging, mostly a cappella vocal music surrounding their audience with sound. Absolutely remarkable. Caroline Hallam deserves a medal for establishing this choir and pulling together this group of talented singers. A must go see for anyone with an ear for extraordinary vocal harmonies. “
